Thomas More clips Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 67-56 decision to visiting Thomas More Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Thomas More (10-8, 6-2 PAC) led 32-31 at halftime and opened the second half on a 21-2 run over the first 8:11 of the period. Thomas More forward Aaron Miller highlighted the run by scoring seven points in less than 30 seconds. After being intentionally fouled on a made layup, Miller hit both free throws. His three-pointer at 12:36 extended the lead to 50-33.

Grove City battled back to within 10, 57-47, when junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) drilled a pair of free throws with five minutes left. The Wolverines could get no closer, however.

Matson scored 10 of his 16 points in the first six minutes of the game, helping the Wolverines grab a 12-7 lead. The first half featured seven lead changes and six ties.

Senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) led Grove City with 20 points, including three three-point goals. He also pulled in a team-leading seven rebounds and added four assists.

For the game, Grove City shot 19 of 59 (32 percent) from the field. Thomas More limited Grove City to 7-for-29 (24 percent) shooting in the second half. Thomas More shot 41 percent (21 of 51) for the game.

Miller led Thomas More with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. Colt Stafford added 15 points and a dozen rebounds. Stafford also had five steals. Thomas More owned a 45-36 edge in rebounding.

Grove City (4-13, 1-7 PAC) will visit Washington & Jefferson Wednesday at 8 p.m. in conference play.
