Wolverines fall to W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 72-56 decision to host Washington & Jefferson Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Henry Memorial Center.

Grove City led 33-32 early in the second half but W&J (7-12, 4-4 PAC) took control of the game with a 20-3 run during the middle portion of the second half. Grove City pulled to within 12, 60-48, with four minutes left but the Wolverines could draw no closer.

Junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) led Grove City with a game-high 21 points. Junior Sam Barnhill (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario) added 10 points for the Wolverines. Grove City shot 21 of 51 (41 percent) from the field for the game.

Four W&J players scored in double figures, led by Brian Felker and Paul Matthews with 19 points each. Zach Bellhy added 14 and Ben Cecchini scored 13 points. W&J shot 44 percent (24 of 55) from the field. The Presidents also out-rebounded Grove City 31-30.

Junior Cody Fleeger (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City with six rebounds. Freshman guard Charlie Thomas (Warren, Pa./Warren) had four assists.

Grove City (4-14, 1-8 PAC) will visit Waynesburg Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
