Bethany tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 59-43 verdict to visiting Bethany Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City limited Bethany (15-6, 8-3 PAC) to just 38 percent (23 of 61) from the field. However, Bethany forced 27 Grove City turnovers and also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.

Bethany led 23-16 at halftime and opened the second half with a 13-5 spurt. Grove City pulled to within 12, 36-24, on a three-pointer from freshman guard Evan Schell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oliver). However, Bethany maintained its double-digit lead over the final 12 minutes of the game.

Schell led Grove City with 14 points. Junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) added nine points and a game-high five assists. Senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) tossed in eight points and led Grove City with eight rebounds. Grove City shot 39 percent (16 of 41) from the field.

British Alexander led Bethany with 17 points and nine rebounds. Nick Wilcox fired in 12 and Ryan McFadden added 10 points for the Bison. Bethany had 16 turnovers.

Grove City (5-16, 2-9 PAC) will visit Thiel Wednesday night in conference action at 8 p.m.
