Thiel tops Grove City

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start Wednesday night at Thiel as the host Tomcats earned a 70-36 victory over Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Thiel (16-6, 11-1 PAC) jumped out to a 20-1 lead and led 31-11 at halftime.

Junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) led Grove City with nine points. Senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) added six points and a team-high six rebounds). Junior Steve Predebon (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) and freshman guard Charlie Thomas (Warren, Pa./Warren) both had five points each.

Grove City shot 11 of 45 (24 percent) from the field for the game. Thiel converted 25 of 52 (48 percent) attempts from the floor. Devon Adams led Thiel with 19 points. Anthony Harvey added 13 points and seven assists.

Thiel owned a 37-29 edge on the glass. Matson had three assists.

Grove City (5-17, 2-10 PAC) hosts Geneva Saturday at 3 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day in the Grove City College Arena.
