Thiel tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 65-48 decision to visiting Thiel College Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Thiel (8-6, 5-3 PAC) held Grove City to 29 percent (17 of 58) shooting from the field and also forced 19 Wolverine turnovers.

Sophomore guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) led Grove City with 13 points and sophomore guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added a dozen points.

Schwartz's layup with 6:46 left in the first half gave Grove City its final lead, 15-14. Thiel countered with a 20-3 run and eventually led 34-23 at halftime.

Chace McKinney led Thiel with 16 points and Ladell Trotty contributed 12 points. Thiel shot 37 percent (21 of 57) from the field. The Tomcats held a 42-38 edge in rebounds.

Freshman forward Tyler Patterson (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) led Grove City with seven rebounds, including six at the offensive end. Marmelstein had four assists and sophomore guard Christian Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) contributed three assists.

Grove City will host Penn State Altoona Monday night at 6 p.m.
