Bethany tops Grove City

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped an 82-47 decision at Bethany (14-6, 8-3) Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Hummel Field House.

Bethany took control of the game in the first half by going on a 16-0 run during the middle portion of the period. The Bison held Grove City without a field goal for nearly seven minutes and led 41-14 at halftime.

The Wolverines opened the second half on a 10-3 spurt as sophomore guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) hit a pair of jumpers to start the run. Schwartz and sophomore guard Josh Patterson (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) also drained three-pointers in that span. Grove City could get no closer, however.

Schwartz led Grove City with 10 points and junior guard Evan Schell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oliver) added seven points. Patterson and freshman guard Joe Vermilya (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview) both had six points.

Schwartz also had six rebounds and three steals. The Wolverines shot 16 of 48 (33 percent) from the field. Grove City went just 4 for 20 (20 percent) in the first half.

Brady Pacific led Bethany with 16 points. The Bison shot 27 of 57 (47 percent) from the field and also owned a 41-29 edge in rebounds.

Grove City (6-13, 3-8 PAC) hosts Pitt-Titusville Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in non-conference action.
