Thiel tops Grove City

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team wrapped up the 2012-13 regular season with an 82-52 loss at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel Saturday afternoon at the Tomcats' Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Thiel (13-9, 10-6 PAC) jumped out to a 25-6 lead during the first 10 minutes of the game and led 40-19 at halftime.

Sophomore guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) paced Grove City (10-15, 6-10 PAC) with nine points and seven rebounds while freshman guard Isaiah Reeves (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional Academy) added seven points and six rebounds.

For the game, Grove City shot 32 percent (18 of 56) from the floor, including a 5-of-26 (18 percent) outing in the first half.

Kamran McCaskill led Thiel with 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting. Ladell Trotty added a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, helping Thiel own a 45-34 edge on the glass. Thiel shot 42 percent (27 of 65) for the game.

Grove City will make a return trip to Thiel Tuesday night for the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament. The Wolverines will be the sixth seed and Thiel has earned the third seed. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
