Wolverines defeat Houghton for first win
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's
basketball team hit twelve three pointers and held Houghton to just 33 percent
shooting as the Wolverines defeated the Highlanders 75-56 to earn their first
win of the 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon at the Geneva College Coaches
vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament.
Junior J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led the
Wolverines (1-1) with a game-high 14 points and went 3-for-3 from
three-point range while fellow junior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery
Rock) added 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior Josh Patterson
(McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) also reached double-figures, scoring 11 points to
go with a game-high eight rebounds.
After leading 32-23 at halftime, Grove City shot 52
percent from the floor in the second half, including 7 of 11 from downtown to pull
away from the Highlanders (0-2).
The Wolverines assisted on 18 of their 26 made field
goals, led by a game-high six from junior Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan
Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's)
Grove City returns to action on Wednesday when the team
travels to Pitt-Greensburg for a 7:00 pm contest.
