Wolverines drop consolation tilt

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 67-35 decision to NAIA member Marian (Ind.) Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of Wittenberg University's Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Pam Smith Evans Arena.

Marian took command of the game by going on a 16-5 run over the final eight minutes of the first half after Grove City (4-5) had pulled into an 11-11 tie. Marian then opened the second half with a 20-8 spurt over the first eight minutes of the second half.

Grove City shot just 30 percent (14 of 46) from the field while Marian went 23 for 50 (46 percent).

Junior guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led Grove City with six points. Junior forward Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock), junior guard Christian Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman forward D.J. Martin (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty) all had five points.

Drew Adams led Marian with 21 points. Marian held a 32-31 edge in rebounds.

Grove City returns to action Friday, January 3 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference game against visiting Waynesburg. The game will have a 3 p.m. tip-off in the Grove City College Arena.
