SVC tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped to 5-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 68-52 setback against visiting Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (8-12 overall) limited Saint Vincent to just 35 percent (10 for 29) shooting from the field in the second half but the Wolverines could not erase Saint Vincent's 38-31 halftime lead.

Sophomore guard Stephen Tam (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) led Grove City with 13 points while junior guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added 11 points. Schwartz also had a team-high six rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Saint Vincent (18-3, 11-1 PAC) broke open the game with a 10-0 run early in the second half as the Bearcats pushed their lead to 54-35. Grove City pulled to within nine, 57-48, on a Schwartz basket with eight minutes left. However, Grove City could get no closer.

For the game, Grove City shot 22 for 55 (40 percent) from the field. Saint Vincent finished the game 24 for 57 (42 percent) from the field. Saint Vincent owned a 42-27 edge in rebounds.

Isaac Turner led Saint Vincent with 16 points while Dillon Stith had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Grove City turned over the ball just eight times while Saint Vincent had 10 turnovers.

Grove City will host conference foe Washington & Jefferson Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
