Bearcats edge Grove City, 59-56

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 59-56 verdict at Presidents' Athletic Conference leader Saint Vincent (10-4, 5-0 PAC) Saturday night at the Carey Center.

Grove City (6-7, 2-3) had a chance to tie the game on its final possession of the game but a long three-point attempt by senior forward Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) fell short with one second remaining.

Senior guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) led Grove City with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting while junior swingman Caleb Knudsen (Saylorsville, Pa./Pius X) posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Wolverines.

Saint Vincent led 29-26 at halftime but Grove City forged three ties in the second half. The Wolverines shot 13 for 21 (62 percent) from the field in the second half.

For the game, Grove City shot 48 percent (22 of 46) from the field while limiting Saint Vincent to a 20-of-55 (36 percent) shooting effort. Saint Vincent did hold a 36-26 edge in rebounds, however. Grove City had 13 turnovers and Saint Vincent committed 11 turnovers.

Sean Kett led Saint Vincent with 15 points.

Grove City will host Penn State Beaver in non-conference action Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
