Waynesburg tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 69-55 decision to visiting Waynesburg (11-9, 7-4) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed 31-24 at halftime but eventually pulled to within 46-44 with 10:45 left in the game. However, Waynesburg broke open the game with a 20-3 run in the while holding Grove City to just one field goal over the next nine minutes.

Senior guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) led Grove City (8-12, 3-8) with 19 points while seniors Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) and J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) both tossed in a dozen points. Schwartz also had a team-high six rebounds.

Grove City shot 16 of 47 (34 percent) from the field for the game. Waynesburg went 22 for 51 (43 percent), including a 10-of-22 (46 percent) effort on three-pointers. Kenny Klase and Thomas Ellis each led Waynesburg with 13 points. Waynesburg outrebounded Grove City 33-32.

Grove City will visit conference rival Westminster for an 8 p.m. game Wednesday night.
