Wolverines top Westminster, 72-67

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team completed a season sweep of Presidents' Athletic Conference archrival Westminster Wednesday night by earning a 72-67 win over the host Titans at Memorial Field House.

Senior guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) fired in 18 points for Grove City while fellow senior J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added 16 points. Junior guard Stephen Tam (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) pumped in 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting for the Wolverines.

Grove City led 35-34 early in the second half but used a 13-1 surge to take a 48-35 lead. Tam's three-pointer and three-point plays by Schwartz and junior Isaiah Reeves (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) helped ignite the run.

Westminster pulled to within 62-61 with 3:29 left but Grove City held off the Titans down the stretch.

Junior Caleb Knudsen (Saylorsville, Pa./Pius X) added eight points, a game-high 11 rebounds and four assists. Schwartz recorded six steals and three assists. Grove City shot 22 of 53 (42 percent) from the field while Westminster went 20 of 55 (36 percent).

Grove City went 22 for 27 (82 percent) at the foul line while Westminster converted 21 of 25 (84 percent) foul shots. Westminster held a 38-33 edge in rebounds. Paul Carswell led Westminster with 20 points.

Grove City (9-12, 4-8 PAC) will visit Geneva in conference action Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
