Bearcats hold off Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 4-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by dropping a 79-67 decision Saturday afternoon to visiting Saint Vincent (10-3, 6-0) in the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore forward Andrew Beckman (Shelby, Mich./Shelby) led Grove City with 13 points while sophomore center Cory Huff (Kersey, Pa./Elk County Catholic) poured in 11 points. Senior Caleb Knudsen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pius X) posted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Wolverines (9-4, 4-2 PAC).

Knudsen also had a team-high four assists and Beckman blocked four shots.

Saint Vincent led 44-34 at halftime and pushed the lead to 65-47 midway through the second half. However, Grove City surged back with a 16-4 run that cut the lead to 69-63 with 2:48 remaining. Senior guard Stephen Tam (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) highlighted the run with a three-pointer and a driving layup while Beckman closed the spurt with two free throws.

However, Saint Vincent put away the game down the stretch.

Grove City shot 26 of 57 (46 percent) from the field while Saint Vincent went 25 for 58 (43 percent). The Wolverines also outrebounded Saint Vincent, 39-35.

Jaylon Bell led Saint Vincent with 17 points while J.C. Howard and Ben Klimchock both had 16 points.

Grove City will host Chatham at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference play.
