Waynesburg tops Grove City

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 7-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by dropping a 75-69 decision Saturday afternoon to host Waynesburg at Rudy Marisa Field House.

Grove City led by as many as 13, 44-31, in the second half but Waynesburg rallied for the win. Waynesburg shot 14 of 23 (61 percent) from the field in the second half while Grove City went 10 of 27 (37 percent) over the final 20 minutes. Grove City went nearly eight minutes without a field goal in the second half.

Senior guard Joe Vermilya (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview) led Grove City (12-7 overall) with 18 points while sophomore center Cory Huff (Kersey, Pa./Elk County Catholic) recorded 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Junior forward Tyler McGrath (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added 13 points.

Grove City rallied from an early 9-0 hole to lead 33-28 at halftime. The Wolverines went 22 of 53 (42 percent) from the field for the game while Waynesburg finished 23 of 48 (48 percent). Grove City also owned a 32-29 edge in rebounds.

Senior Caleb Knudsen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pius X) added seven rebounds and three steals for Grove City.

D.J. Richie and Jon Knab each led Waynesburg (6-13, 6-6 PAC) with 16 points.

Grove City will host Westminster at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night in conference action.
