GCC Falls to Hilbert, 63-56
HAMBURG, NY, January 12, 2000--Hilbert shot 72% (13-18) from the floor in the second half and defeated Grove City, 63-56, in Hamburg, NY. The Hawks improved to 3-7, while the Wolverines slipped to 3-10.
Grove City trailed 31-26 at halftime, despite outshooting Hilbert 55% (11-20) to 38% (12-32) in the first 20 minutes. Six of the Hawks' 12 field goals were from outside the arc.
The Wolverines committed just nine turnovers in the game, while Hilbert had only seven giveaways. The Hawks held a slight edge on the boards, outrebounding GCC 24-21.
Dave Pifer (Sarver, PA/Freeport) paced the Wolverines for the fifth straight game with 12 points. Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) scored 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) and Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) chipped in with eight points each. Roberts was perfect from the floor, going 4-for-4. Quinn grabbed a team-high four boards.
Hilbert was led by Mike Tyszka, who fired in a game-high 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting.
