O'Keefe earns Academic All-District

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior men's basketball player Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) earned ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division First Team Academic All-District honors Thursday through voting by the region's sports information directors.

As a First Team selection, O'Keefe now advances to the national CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.

A 6-foot-7 center, O'Keefe has helped lead Grove City to a 7-2 mark in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and a 13-7 overall mark. He leads Grove City in scoring at 18.3 points per game. His 5.9 rebounds per game average also leads the team. O'Keefe currently ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 68.9 percent from the field.

O'Keefe ranks 22nd all-time at Grove City with 1,040 points. He is the school's all-time leader in field goal percentage at 60.4 percent. O'Keefe is a three-year starter and four-year letterman.

In the classroom, O'Keefe has achieved a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in mathematics/secondary education. He is a Dean's List student and has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll. O'Keefe is a Presidential Scholarship recipient and has been inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary.

He is the fourth Grove City player in the last six years to earn Academic All-District, joining J.D. Collar (2005), Chuck Cotherman (2006) and Ryan Gerber (2007).

Eleven Grove City student-athletes have earned Academic All-District honors during the 2009-10 academic year. Last year, 19 Grove City student-athletes achieved CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.

District II College Division includes all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
