Grove City claims title at Westminster Invite


NEW WILMINGTON, PA, March 20, 2000--Dave Pifer (Sarver, PA/Freeport) fired a low-round 74 as the Wolverines captured first-place at the seven-team Westminster Invitational, held at the New Castle Country Club on Monday.

Grove City posted a four-man team total of 306 to edge host Westminster by two shots.  Other team scores included Pitt-Greensburg (326), Penn State Behrend (339), Edinboro (345), Waynesburg (356) and Bethany (366).

Pifer's 74 (38-36) tied Westminster's Mike Burnett for individual medalist honors.  Grove City's Nate Miklos (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Christian) went out in 32 and finished one shot back with a 75.  Chris Moreland (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg-Salem) carded a 76 (40-36) to tie for fourth overall, while Mike Liptak (Sharon, PA/Kennedy Christian) tied for 10th with an 81 (39-42).

Burt Romanoff (Washington, PA/Trinity) shot an 82 (41-41) to finish tied for 15th in the field of 35.
