Wolverines settle for second at PAC championship

WHEELING, WV, April 25, 2002--For the second year in a row, the Grove City College men's golf team placed second to Washington & Jefferson College at the two-day Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship, held at Speidel Golf Course in Wheeling, WV.  The Wolverines finished 13 strokes back in the final team standings after placing 14 shots off the place last spring.

Senior Nate Miklos (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Christian) fired a low-round 78 on Thursday to finish third overall, one shot behind W&J's Mark Hazen and Mark Brandt, who totaled 159 over 36 holes.  Miklos opened with an 82 on Wednesday and finished at 160.

Joining Miklos on the PAC First Team (top five overall) was Wolverine junior Dan Sumner (New Wilmington, PA/Neshannock), who claimed fourth place with a 164 (82-82).  Senior Mike Solesha (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) turned in a 170 (82-88) to place ninth overall and earn a spot on the PAC Second Team (sixth through 10th). 

W&J won the title with a team score of 653 followed by Grove City (666), Waynesburg (696), Thiel (752) and Bethany (756).
