Grove City competes in Fall Championships
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Grove City College's men's and women's golf teams competed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Invitational this week at Oak Tree Country Club. On the men's side, Grove City placed fourth out of seven teams with a team score of 628. Washington & Jefferson won the Invitational with a team score of 577, followed by Westminster (601) and Thomas More (603).
Grove City's women's squad fired an aggregate 761 Tuesday and Wednesday to claim second place. W&J won the women's invitational with a 708 while Westminster took third with a 795. Saint Vincent finished fourth at 979.
The women's team placed three golfers in the top seven. Junior Renee Ward (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished third overall with a 177 while freshman Arielle Goyzueta (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) took fourth with a 178. Junior Shayla Benninger (Butler, Pa./Butler) finished seventh with a 36-hole total of 189. W&J's Alison Lazorchak earned medalist with a 159.
Sophomore Troy Demmer (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and sophomore Tim Kerr (Newtown, Conn./Homeschooled) both tied for 14th on the men's side with two-day totals of 154. W&J's John Williams shot a 139 to earn medalist honors.
The team scores from this week's event will carry over to the spring PAC Championships. The individual scores do not carry over.
