Grove City competes at Capital

LOCKBOURNE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's golf team opened the 2009 spring season by competing in the Capital University Purple and White Invitational at Foxfire Golf Club. Nine Grove City golfers participated in the 36-hole event.

Freshman Andrew Shakely (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City with a two-day total of 167, which placed him in 18th place. Sophomore Troy Demmer (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) took 36th with a 177.

Two of the five Grove City players who were part of the team standings could not finish their second round Saturday, thus, the Wolverines did not place in the team standings. Madonna University won the team title with a cumulative score of 635.

Grove City returns to action April 16 at the Saint Vincent Invitational in Latrobe, Pa.
