Wolverines 4th at PAC Championships
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team finished fourth out of seven teams at the 2009 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, held at Oak Tree Country Club Monday and Tuesday. The Wolverines fired an aggregate 324-312-636 during the two-day event. When combined with Grove City's 628 at the Fall Championships, the Wolverines posted a total team score of 1264.
Washington & Jefferson won the team title with 607-577-1184. Thomas More (1212) took second while Westminster (1225) finished third.
Freshman Andrew Shakely (Butler, Pa./Butler) tied for eighth overall with a two-day total of 154. He earned Second Team All-PAC honors.
Freshman Will Moyer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) tied for 18th with a 160 while freshman Ian Finney (Valencia, Pa./Mars) took 20th with a 162. Sophomore Troy Demmer (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) finished 21st with a 164 while classmate Joe Campanella (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) placed 27th with a 36-hole total of 171.
Saint Vincent's Doug Mehall earned medalist with a 142. Thomas More's Joe Ruzick shot a 147 to earn PAC Player of the Year. Mehall could not receive Player of the Year due to Saint Vincent's provisional status in NCAA Division III.
Grove City will wrap up the 2009 season Monday as the Wolverines host the McBride-Behringer-Allen "MBA" Invitational at Grove City Country Club.
