Grove City 2nd at 'MBA' Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team concluded the 2009 season Monday afternoon by placing second in its own McBride-Behringer-Allen "MBA" Invitational at Grove City Country Club. The Wolverines accumulated a team score of 317, one stroke behind team champion Saint Vincent. Notre Dame (Ohio) also fired a cumulative 317, followed by Westminster "A" in fourth with a 325. Penn State Altoona (331), Westminster "B" (338), Waynesburg (338), Thiel (374) and Bethany (399) rounded out the field.
Freshman Andrew Shakely (Butler, Pa./Butler) paced Grove City by tying for fifth place with a round of 77. Sophomore Troy Demmer (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and sophomore Tim Kerr (Newtown, Conn./Homeschooled) tied for eighth with 79s. Saint Vincent's Steve Fiori earned medalist with a round of 70 on the par-72 course.
The event is named in honor of three gentlemen who have made a profound impact on Grove City College and its golf program: longtime trustee Milford "Miff" McBride, former golf coach and director of athletics R. Jack Behringer and longtime Grove City golf coach Bill Allen.
