Grove City Places First At Lone Pine

March 29, 1999--Dave Pifer (Freeport, PA/Freeport) carded a low-round 82 to lead the Grove City College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the five-school Lone Pine Invitational, hosted by Washington & Jefferson College.

The Wolverines (420) placed ahead of Presidents' Athletic Conference foes W&J (438), Waynesburg (447), Thiel (459) and Bethany (491).

Pifer's 82 won him medalist honors by one stroke over Waynesburg's ace, who shot 83.   Jason Kent (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) and Nate Miklos (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Christian) tied for fourth with rounds of 84.  Steve Pegula (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and Mike Liptak (Sharon, PA/Kennedy Christian) shared sixth place with 85s.

Grove City has placed second behind W&J at the last four PAC Championships.   This year's championship will be held April 22-23 at Speidel Golf Course in Wheeling, WV.
