Grove City takes 3rd

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team placed third at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Cedarbrook Golf Club Tuesday afternoon. Grove City finished the 72-hole event with a team score of 1,243. Saint Vincent won the team title with a 1,204, followed by Washington & Jefferson at 1,231. Thiel finished fourth at 1,245.

Two Grove City players earned All-PAC recognition. Junior Conor Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) shot a combined 152 Monday and Tuesday, good for fourth place overall. He earned First Team All-PAC distinction.

Senior Blake Brogan (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) placed seventh overall with a 153. He landed on the conference's Second Team.

Sophomore Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) took 12th with a 155 while senior Matt Litton (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) finished 17th in the field with a 159. Sophomore Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) carded a 161, which ranked 20th.

Saint Vincent's Micah Markantone won the tournament with a 147.

The Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships feature four rounds of competition -- two in the fall and two in the spring. All four rounds count toward the team championship while Player of the Year and All-PAC Teams are determined solely by the spring competition.

Grove City will compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Thursday in Pittsburgh.
