Grove City wins Penn State Behrend Invitational

NORTH EAST, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team shot a season-best team score and seniors Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) and Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) both shot the low round of the day as the Wolverines edged Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Thiel for the team title at the Penn State Behrend Invitational at Lake View County Club on Monday afternoon.

Grove City's victorious score of 305 edged the Tomcats by three strokes and was the lowest shot by the team since last year's squad posted a 298 at the 2013 PAC Fall Invitational.

Locher and Giesler each shot a one-over-par 73 to tie with Thiel's Jason Thorp for the day's low score among the 53-golfer field. Thorp earned medalist honors on a scorecard tiebreaker.

Freshmen Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) fired a 77 to finish third on the team and tied for sixth overall while senior Austin Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Lititz Christian) tied for 20th with an 82.

Freshman Connor Grieb (Wexford, Pa./Homeschooled) rounded out the Wolverines' five-man team with an 85 while freshman Connor Tipping (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) posted an 88 competing as an individual.

Grove City returns to action tomorrow when they compete in the La Roche Invitational at Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park. Tee time is slated for 1 p.m.
