Wolverines win second-straight title at La Roche
ALLISON PARK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team won its second-consecutive team title and senior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) earned medalist honors as the Wolverines competed at the La Roche College Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Wildwood Golf Club.
Grove City shot a team score of 318 to edge Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Saint Vincent by two strokes for the team crown. Yesterday, the Wolverines won their first invitational of the year by shooting a 305 at the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
Giesler fired a 71 to win his first individual title of the season by four strokes while fellow senior Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) tied for second in the 58-golfer field with a 75.
Sophomore Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) and freshman Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) both recorded scores of 86 to tie for 25th while senior Austin Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Lititz Christian) posted a 93.
Freshman Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian Academy) tied for 15th individually with an 83 while competing as an individual.
Grove City returns to action next Monday and Tuesday when they compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Golf Championships at the New Castle Country Club.
