Wolverines finish ninth at Capital Invitational
GALENA, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's golf team shot a two-day score of 661 to finish ninth at the Capital Invitational at the Royal American Links in Galena.
The Wolverines posted a team score of 329 on day one before shooting a 332 on day two.
Junior Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) shot identical rounds of 79 for a two-day score of 158 to lead the Wolverines and place him in a tie for 17th in the 68-golfer field. Junior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) went 81-82 and freshman Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg-Franklin) shot rounds of 80 and 83 as each posted a 163 to tie for 33rd.
Junior Austin Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Lititz Christian) shot an 89 on day one to count as the Wolverines' fourth score while junior Nick Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) recorded an 88 on Saturday to count for round two.
Division II Ohio Dominican won the team title with a two-day score of 602 while Charlie Phillips of NAIA-member Mount Vernon Nazarene shot a 145 to earn medalist honors.
Grove City returns to action next Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Malone Invitational.
