Grove City takes third at PAC Championships
BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team concluded the 2014 Presidents' Athletic Conference Spring Golf Championships in third place with a 72-hole score of 1247 on Saturday afternoon at the Cedarbrook Golf Club.
The Wolverines' two-day score of 639 was added to their 608 from the PAC Fall Championships.
Junior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) posted a two-day score of 153 (74-79) to finish tied for third individually and earn All-PAC First Team honors. Additionally, junior Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) garnered All-PAC Honorable Mention status by shooting a two-round 159 (81-78) to tie for 12th in the 40-golfer field.
Senior Conor Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) rebounded from a first round 86 to shoot an 80 on day two and finish 18th with a 166 while junior Nick Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) finished tied for 20th with a 167 (79-88).
Freshman Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg-Franklin) rounded out the Grove City contingent with a 25th-place score of 169 (87-82).
Saint Vincent won the men's team crown with a four-round score of 1211 while Washington and Jefferson was second with a 1228.
Thomas More's Mike Marcagi earned PAC MVP honors with a two-round score of 150.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships feature four rounds of competition -- two in the fall and two in the spring. All four rounds count toward the team championship while Player of the Year and All-PAC Teams are determined solely by the spring competition.
The Wolverines will conclude their 2014 season at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Wednesday.
