Wolverines tie for third at Malone Fall Classic

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Playing in their first match of the 2015-16 season, the Grove City College men's golf team shot a two-day 304 to tie for third against five NCAA Division II opponents at the six-team, 36-hole Malone University Fall Classic at the Tannenhauf Golf Course on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

Sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) fired a two-round score of 147 (73-74) to finish in a four-way tie for third in the 49-golfer field. Freshmen Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) and Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) tied for ninth place with scores of 150 in their first tournament as Wolverines while freshman Nick Barber (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) shot a 161 and sophomore Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian Academy) posted scores of 161 and 163, respectively, to round out the Wolverine scoring five.

Four Grove City golfers competed as individuals during the tournament. Freshman Evan Hangliter (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) shot a 159. Sophomore Connor Tipping (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) posted a 166, sophomore Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) a 167 and freshman Nick Hough (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) a 169 for the Wolverines.

The host Pioneers won the team title with a 36-hole team score of 585 while Malone's Jake Troyer fired a two-under-par 142 to earn medalist honors.

Grove City will play host to their own Fall Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at the Grove City Country Club. Competition will begin at 1 p.m.
