Wolverines finish third at own Fall Invite

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) earned a runner-up finish and freshman Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) joined him in the top five as the Grove City College men's golf team finished third out of six teams at their own Fall Invitational at the Grove City Country Club earlier this afternoon.

Alfery shot a one-under-par 71, his lowest round as a Wolverine, to finish tied for second in the 38-golfer field and lead the Wolverines to a team score of 307. McCook tied for fourth place with a one-over 73 while freshman Nick Barber (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) tied for 18th with an 80 and fellow freshmen Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) and Evan Hangliter (Seven Springs, Pa./Pine-Richland) both shot rounds of 83 to tie for 24th.

Sophomore Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian Academy) tied for 10th individually with a 77 while competing as an individual. Sophomores Connor Tipping (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) and Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) both tied for 21st with rounds of 81 while Nick Hough rounded out the Grove City competitors with an 84.

Washington and Jefferson shot a 296 to win the team title while Saint Vincent was second with a 302. The Presidents' Patrick Jonnet earned medalist honors with a four-under 68.

Grove City returns to action Monday when they compete at the Penn State Behrend Invitational at the Lake View Country Club in North East, Pa. Competition is scheduled to begin at noon.
