Wolverine men edged by Saint Vincent at PAC Fall Championships

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team shot a 308 to finish the Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Championships with a 36-hole total of 620 on Saturday afternoon at Cedarbrook's Gold Course and sit in second place just four strokes behind Saint Vincent heading into the Spring Championships.

The Bearcats fired a 303 on Saturday to edge ahead of the Wolverines with a two-day total of 616. Jake Reed led Saint Vincent with a second-day 70 to earn medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 143.

Sophomores Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian Academy) both posted scores of 77 for the second day in a row to tie for fourth individually with 154s. Freshman Evan Hangliter (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Wolverines with a 76 on Saturday to finish the weekend in 10th with a 156 while fellow freshman Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) recorded a 78 to place 12th with a 159.

Freshman Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa,./Eden Christian) is tied for 18th in the 40 golfer field with a 163 after shooting an 85 on Saturday.

The Wolverines are 13 strokes ahead of Thiel and Thomas More, who are tied for third with scores of 633. Washington and Jefferson sits fifth with a 646 while Westminster is sixth with a 655.

Grove City will host the spring portion of the 2015-16 PAC Championships at the Grove City Country Club on April 29-30, 2016.

The Wolverines return to action October 12 and 13 at the California (Pa.) Vulcan Invitational in Washington, Pa.
