Grove City College Men's Golf

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team hosted the annual McBride-Behringer-Allen "MBA" Invitational on a rainy Thursday afternoon at the Grove City Country Club. Grove City's "Crimson" team posted a four-man total of 312 to finish one stroke behind champion Saint Vincent while the Wolverine "White" team took fifth in the eight-team event with a 332.

Sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) led the Wolverines and tied for third individually in the 43-golfer field with a five-over-par 77. Freshman Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) and sophomore Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian) tied for sixth with rounds of 78 while freshman Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) rounded out the scoring four for the "Crimson" squad by tying for 10th with a 79. Sophomore Connor Tipping (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) rounded out the Crimson team with a 92.

Sophomore Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) tied for 12th with an 80 to lead Grove City's "White" team, and freshman Evan Hangliter (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) tied for 18th with an 82. Freshman Nick Barber (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and junior Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) recorded rounds of 84 and 86, respectively, while sophomore Connor Grieb (Wexford, Pa./Homeschooled) rounded out the White team's five with a 90.

Saint Vincent won the team title with a 311. Mount Union's Buster Thomas and Saint Vincent's Jake Biss tied for the low round of the day with scores of 75, but Thomas was crowned medalist by beating Biss on a scorecard tiebreaker (Hole No. 2).

The event is named in honor of three gentlemen who have made a profound impact on Grove City College and its golf program: longtime trustee Milford "Miff" McBride, former golf coach and director of athletics R. Jack Behringer and longtime Grove City golf coach Bill Allen.

The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Invite at Longue Vue.
