McCook leads Wolverines at Doug Rogers Memorial
BOLIVAR, Pa. -- Freshmen Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) shot an even-par 71 to tie for the lowest round of the day and lead the Grove City College men's golf team in competition at Saint Vincent College's Doug Rogers Memorial on Saturday afternoon at the Champion Lakes Golf Club. Grove City's "Crimson" team finished second in the 10-team event with a score of 313 while the Wolverine "White" team tied for seventh with a 335.
McCook lost to Saint Vincent's Jake Reed on a playoff hole for medalist honors as the Crimson team finished just two strokes behind the Bearcats' Gold team in the team standings. Grove City White also tied Saint Vincent's Green Team for seventh.
Sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) finished fourth in the 51-golfer field with a round of 75 for the Crimson Team while junior Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) was one spot back in a tie for fifth to lead the White Team with a round of 77.
Sophomore Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) tied for 15th overall with a round of 80 for the White Team while freshman Nick Barber (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) tied for 21st with an 82, including a hole in one.
Grove City will compete at the Westminster Spring Invitational on Monday in its final tune up before the 2016 Presidents' Athletic Conference Spring Championships on Friday and Saturday.
