Grove City 38th after first day at NCAA Championships

MENDON, N.Y. -- The Grove City men's golf team posted a first day total of 326 to sit in 38th place after the first day of competition at the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the Mendon Golf Club on Tuesday morning and afternoon.

Freshman Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) led the Wolverines, competing in the national championships for the first time in program history, with a four-over par round of 75 to tie for 38th place in the 210-golfer field. He also currently sits in a tie for 10th among golfers on teams not ranked in the top-15. The top five individuals apart from teams that make the 15-team cut after Wednesday will also get to continue on to Thursday and Friday's rounds.

Sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) posted an 81 to rank tied for 145th while classmate Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) is tied for 180th with an 84. Junior Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) and freshman Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) both recorded rounds of 86 to tie for 196th after Tuesday.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the team competition at +2 after Day One after shooting a 286 at the Mendon Golf Club. C-M-S's Kethan Reddy leads all individuals at three-under-par.

The Wolverines tee off in Round Two tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at the Midvale Country Club.
