Wolverines finish 40th at NCAA Championships
PENFIELD, N.Y. -- The Grove City men's golf team finished their appearance in the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships in 40th place with a 36-hole score of 662 after posting a second-round total of 336 on Wednesday afternoon at the Midvale Country Club.
Freshman Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown STEM) finished the event tied for 121st with a two-day total of 159 after shooting an 84 on Wednesday while sophomores Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Nate Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) tied for 175th with scores of 167. Guiler led the Wolverines on Wednesday with an 83.
Freshman Ryan Koenig (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) posted an 84 in his second round to tie for 192nd with a 170 while junior Austin Eckhardt (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg) was one stroke back in a tie for 195th with a 171 after recording an 85 Wednesday.
The top 15 teams and five individuals on a non-qualifying team made the 36-hole cut and will advance to competition tomorrow and Friday. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the team competition after two rounds with an 11-over 585 while Washington & Lee is nine strokes back with a 594. C-M-S's Kethan Reddy leads all individuals with a 143 while three golfers are tied with 144.
Today concludes the 2015-16 season for the Wolverines. Grove City loses no players to graduation.
