Three earn All-PAC as Grove City finishes 3rd at PACs

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team rebounded from a 322 on Day One to shoot a second day 309 and wrap up a third-place finish in the 2014-15 Presidents' Athletic Conference men's golf standings at the conference's Spring Championships at Cedarbrook Golf Course on Friday and Saturday.

The Wolverines posted a cumulative 72-hole total from the Fall and Spring Championships of 1268 strokes, beating Thomas More for third place by a single stroke. Washington and Jefferson held off a final round push by Saint Vincent to claim the team title, edging the Bearcats 1243-1248.

Senior Christian Locher (Mars, Pa./Mars) tied for the low round of the tournament with a 71 on Saturday to rebound from a first-day 80 and finish second individually on the weekend. Additionally, Locher's 72-hole total of 305 was third-best among all golfers, earning him First Team All-PAC honors for the first time in his career. Locher earned Honorable Mention last year as a junior.

Freshman Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) fired a two-day 155 (80-75) to tie for seventh individually at the Spring Championships while senior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa./Slippery Rock) was 16th with a identical rounds of 80 for a 36-hole 160. Giesler's 72-hole cumulative score of 313 ranked six while Alfery tied for 10th with a 318 as both earned Second Team All-PAC honors.

Freshman Anthony Smaldino (Butler, Pa./Vincentian Academy) posted a 36-hole score of 165 (82-83) to tie for 22nd on the weekend and give him a 72-hole total of 333. Freshman Connor Tipping (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) rounded out the Grove City five with rounds of 90 and 89.

Today's round completes the 2015 season for Grove City. The Wolverines will lose Locher and Giesler, as well as fellow seniors Nick Guiler (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) and Austin Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Lititz Christian) to graduation.
