Bethany beats GCC, 2-0

BETHANY, WV, September 20, 2000--The Wolverines dropped a 2-0 decision to league-rival Bethany on Wednesday, despite playing the 20-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference champions even on their home turf.

Freshman Joe Shockey (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) made his first collegiate start in goal for Grove City, replacing Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) who was forced to sit out after picking up a red card Saturday at Mount Union.  Shockey played like a veteran, making nine saves and surrendering two goals -- the first on a penalty kick in the 41st minute.  Bethany added an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute when Grove City pressed offensively in an effort to tie the game.

The Wolverines fell to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the PAC.  The Bison improved to 3-4 overall, 1-0 in the conference.
