Wolverines whip La Roche, 5-1

GROVE CITY, PA, October 11, 2000--Five different Wolverines dented the scoring column as the Grove City College men's soccer team posted a 5-1 non-conference victory over visiting La Roche College Wednesday.

The Wolverines buried three goals in the first half, the first two coming on unassisted tallies by juniors Chris Crefeld (Lakehurst, NY/Pequannock) and Brian Williams (Charlotte, NC/First Assembly).  Sophomore Kevin Montgomery (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) added a goal before intermission off a pass from senior Matt Sampogna (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks).  For Williams, it marked his third goal of the season, while Crefeld and Montgomery each recorded their first goal of the year.

A pair of seniors teamed up to put Grove City ahead 4-0 as Michael Koerber (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) fed Cory Nordman (St. Charles, IL/New Fairfield), who netted his third goal of the season.  Two freshmen connected on the game's final goal with Dustin King (Castalia, PA/Margareta) scoring his first off a pass from Joe Shockey (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley).

The Wolverines, who last scored five goals in a game on October 21, 1999, outshot the Redhawks, 32-9.

Grove City improved to 5-6-0 overall, while La Roche fell to 5-7-1.
