Wolverines fall in PAC semis

BETHANY, WV, November 3, 2000--The Grove City College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday as host Bethany advanced to Saturday's championship game to face Washington & Jefferson at 1:00 p.m.

Winner of 20 consecutive league championships, Bethany scored its first goal inside the box in the fifth minute and led 1-0 at halftime.  The game remained a one-goal margin until the Bison padded their lead with goals in the 80th and 85th minutes.

Top-seeded Bethany outshot fourth-seeded Grove City, 14-8.

Wolverine sophomore goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was credited with six saves.

Grove City, who shared the PAC crown with Bethany in 1996, fell to 10-9-1 overall, while Bethany improved to 14-5-1.

Washington & Jefferson beat Waynesburg in Friday's other semifinal, 4-0.
