Grove City posts shutout in opener

GREENSBURG, PA, September 1, 2001--After posting seven of its 10 victories by shutout last season, the Grove City College men's soccer team picked up where it left off in Saturday's 2001 opener, beating host Pitt-Greensburg College, 1-0.

Sophomore forward Dustin King (Castalia, OH/Margaretta) netted the game-winner, unassisted, in the 66th minute, after dribbling past the Bobcats' goalkeeper and a would-be defender.  King scored one goal in 15 appearances last year.

Wolverine junior goalie Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) earned his ninth career shutout with six saves, while senior sweeper Andy Shockey (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) provided several critical clears as Grove City survived 14 Bobcat shots.

Pitt-Greensburg outshot Grove City 10-0 in the first half and 14-4 in the game.

Wolverine head coach Dr. Don Lyle opened his 30th season at the helm.
