Wolverines stay hot, blank Mount Union

GROVE CITY, PA, September 15, 2001-- The Grove City College men's soccer team continued its early-season dominance Saturday, out-shooting visiting Mount Union College, 24-2, en route to a 2-0 victory at the College Field.

Grove City improved to 4-1 overall with its fourth shutout of the season, while Mount Union lost its fifth straight game and fell to 2-5.

After a scoreless first half in which the Wolverines out-shot the Purple Raiders, 9-1, sophomore forward Dustin King (Castalia, OH/Margaretta) put Grove City ahead in the 54th minute with his team-high third goal of the season off a pass from senior forward Jon Veschio (Mercer, PA/Mercer).  Veschio buried an insurance goal in the 71st minute -- his first of the season -- assisted by senior Chris Crefeld (Manchester, NJ/PTHS).

Wolverine junior goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was credited with his 12th career shutout.

Grove City will play its next four games against Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents.  Defending champion Bethany College visits GCC next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
