GCC win streak stopped at four
GROVE CITY, PA, September 27, 2001--The Wolverine soccer team out-shot visiting
Westminster College, 10-5, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss
to its nearby rival. The loss halted a four-game winning streak and
dropped Grove City's overall record to 6-2. Westminster improved its
overall mark to 6-1.
The Titans opened the scoring in the 43rd minute on a goal by John Booth and went ahead 2-0 on Josh Hanna's score in the 74th minute.
Grove City had surrendered just three goals through its first seven games. Nationally-ranked Messiah College accounted for two of those goals in the Wolverines' only other loss of the season (Sep. 8).
Grove City remained in first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (4-0) since games against Westminster will not count in the league standings until next fall when the Titans complete their transition from NCAA Division II to Division III.
