CMU deals Wolverines fifth loss

PITTSBURGH, PA, October 24, 2001--The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision on the artificial turf at Carnegie Mellon University Wednesday night as the Tartans became the first team to score more than two goals against the Wolverines in the 2001 season.

After a scoreless first half, Carnegie Mellon took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 54th minute.  Grove City freshman Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, OH/Conneaut) tied the game in the 83rd minute with his first collegiate goal, assisted by senior Chris Crefeld (Manchester, NJ/PTHS), but CMU broke the deadlock in the 85th minute and added an insurance tally less than two minutes later.

Junior goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) registered five saves.

Grove City, now 11-5 overall, next travels to Maryland on Saturday for a 3:00 game against the Frostburg State University Bobcats.
