Wolverine soccer season ends in 138th minute

BETHLEHEM, PA, November 7, 2001--After two hours and 18 minutes, Moravian College broke a scoreless tie in the fourth overtime session to defeat visiting Grove City College, 1-0, in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals in Bethlehem, Pa. Wednesday afternoon.

Moravian freshman Dan Samuelsson netted the game-winner three minutes into the fourth extra session, burying a mid-range shot from the left side into the upper right-hand corner of the goal.

The Wolverines, who captured an ECAC championship in 1996, were outshot, 13-11, and shutout for just the third time this season.

Grove City junior goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was credited with five saves.

The Wolverines closed the season with an overall record of 13-7-1, posting a school-record 10 shutouts along the way.  They had been unbeaten in three overtime games (3-0-0) prior to Wednesday's play-in.
