Wolverines complete sweep of Thiel, record 400th win

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Freshman Nate Jones (Manassas, Va./Emmanuel Christian) scored a goal and assisted on two other scores as Grove City (4-11-2, 2-6-1 PAC) held off Thiel Monday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's soccer action.

The victory is the 400th in Grove City men's soccer history dating back to 1938. Grove City is currently 400-253-51 (.604) all-time. 

Jones scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute, then assisted on Tony Salvey's (Ridgefield, Wash./Ridgefield) first career goal. Salvey's 13th-minute goal gave Grove City a 2-0 halftime lead.

After Thiel tied the match in the 73rd minute, Dustin King (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) scored the game-winner off a Jones assist in the 75th minute. Goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped five shots to record the win.

Grove City held a 24-12 edge in shots. With a home win Saturday against Washington and Jefferson, the Wolverines will earn a home game in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals.
