Wolverines advance with 1-0 win in quarterfinals

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Dan Bryan (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy) picked a good time for his first goal of the 2002 season.

Bryan's goal in the 83rd minute lifted fourth-seeded Grove City (5-12-2) past No. 5 seed Thiel, 1-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament quarterfinal at College Field Monday afternoon.

Jake Burns (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) supplied the assist while in goal, senior Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) recorded the shutout by making five saves. Grove City out-shot Thiel, 15-12.

The Wolverines will now face top-seeded Westminster in the semifinals Wednesday afternoon in New Wilmington. The Titans swept the two regular season encounters this year, winning 2-0 and 2-1.
