Westminster tops Grove City in double overtime

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Top-seeded Westminster rallied for a 2-1, double overtime victory over Grove City (5-13-2) in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament Wednesday afternoon, ending the Wolverines' season.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a goal from junior Mike Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Jake Burns (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) supplied the assist. However, Westminster's John Booth tied the match with a goal in the 35th minute.

After a scoreless second half and first overtime, Booth scored four minutes into the second 10-minute overtime. Senior goalkeeper Brad Smith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped 10 shots for Grove City. The Titans outshot Grove City, 31-15.

Smith, Nate Burgess (Richmond, Va./The Collegiate), Nate Gilch (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Matt Johnson (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) all played their final game for the Wolverines.
