Grove City rolls past Pitt-Bradford, 4-1
BRADFORD, Pa. -- Four different players scored goals as the Grove City College men's soccer team (1-0-1) stayed undefeated with a 4-1 victory over host Pitt-Bradford Wednesday afternoon.
Grove City grabbed a 2-0 lead less than halfway through the first half as sophomore Nathaniel Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) and junior Seth Murray (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) both scored. Jones' goal in the 4th minute came on assists from senior Dustin King (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) and junior Dan Bryan (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy) while Murray's 21st-minute goal came after an assist from freshman Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk).
In the 30th minute, junior Jake Burns (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) scored his first goal of the year to put the Wolverines up 3-1. King and Bryan both assisted on Burns' goal.
Grove City then sealed the win six minutes into the second half when senior Mike Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) fired in a penalty kick, capping the game's scoring. Grove City out-shot Pitt-Bradford 20-5.
Sophomore goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) made two saves and earned his first collegiate win. Freshman Dave Mahtani (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) played the final five minutes in net.
Grove City visits Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday in a non-conference clash. The home opener is Sept. 10 against Waynesburg. It is also the Wolverines' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
