Wolverines grab share of PAC lead with 2-1 win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Despite playing the final 28 minutes a man down, the Grove City College men's soccer team pulled out a 2-1 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Waynesburg in both teams' league opener Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Nathaniel Jones' (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) unassisted goal in the 65th minute gave Grove City (2-1-1, 1-0 PAC) the lead for good. Less than four minutes earlier, Waynesburg tied the match at 1-1 on Luke Benton's penalty kick. The Yellow Jackets received the penalty kick after Grove City's Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington) was sent off after a goal-saving intentional handball.

The Wolverines seized a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute as senior Dustin King (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) headed in his second goal of the season after a free kick from junior Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly).

In goal, sophomore Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) made one save to pick up the win. Grove City out-shot Waynesburg (2-2, 0-1) 16-7.

Grove City is now tied with Washington and Jefferson for the early lead in the PAC at 1-0.

The Wolverines will host Mount Union Saturday at 1 p.m.
